General Portfolio

Your portfolio is a selection of work that shows your skills and talents. It introduces you and your ideas and shows us you have the creativity and imagination to be a student at Media Design School. There are no strict rules about what you should include in your General Portfolio. As a guide, it should include a range of 12 - 20 pieces of your best works that represent who you are as a creative person. We recommend including a range of media and styles. It is not imperative you include digital artworks. Here are some of the examples you could include:

  • Pencil drawings and illustrations
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Graphic or Digital design
  • 3D models or visualisations
  • Concept art and characters
  • Video or moving images

Basic Portfolio

If you are applying for the Foundation Course (Diploma in Digital Creativity) we don't expect you to have experience in the creative technologies. For a Basic Portfolio, we'll be looking for creativity and passion for the creative arts, with more emphasis on creativity than technical execution. We suggest you put together 6 - 10 pieces of work that you enjoy doing, using your favourite media:

  • Drawings
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Concepts and ideas that interest you

Advanced Portfolio

If you are applying for Graduate Studies (Graduate Diploma in Creative Technologies), we assume that you will have accumulated a body of work throughout your previous study or career.

We will expect your portfolio to be of a professional standard; one that clearly indicates your areas of interest and who you are as an artist. If you are applying for the VFX or Motion Graphics streams, we would also like to see a showreel of your current works.

Task Sheets

Task Sheets give you relevant tasks to complete and submit along with your application. Download the following Task Sheets here:
