In 2016, Media Design School was ranked as the world’s top tertiary provider for both Graphic Design and Photography by a panel of internationally renowned judges, beating 479 other schools from 77 countries for these top honours.
Better yet, of the nine international finalists for The Rookies Graphic Designer of the Year, two of the students selected were third year MDS Bachelor of Media Design students.
Media Design School is also New Zealand's most awarded digital design school. At the 2016 Design Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards, our students picked up a Gold and Silver award in the Graphic Design category and a Bronze award in the Interactive category.
3. Our AdSchool is NZ's original and most awarded Creative Advertising course
Media Design School's AdSchool is currently ranked as one of top five best advertising schools in the world by the Young Guns awards.
Internationally, 2016 was a stellar year for the AdSchool. Two MDS AdSchool teams scored a Crystal Award in the Innovation category at the AdStars Awards in 2016 - taking out two of only three awards handed out in the non-professional section of the category. During the same year, two student teams from the AdSchool scored a Silver and a Bronze award in the International Young Glory competition.
Here in New Zealand, the AdSchool took out both categories at the annual student NewsWorks awards for the ninth year in a row!
4. We have exclusive industry partnerships with some of the best
Media Design School has a number of exclusive industry partnerships. To date, Media Design School is the only school in New Zealand to have partnered with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s PlayStation First Academic Development Programme, giving our students the opportunity to develop games for the PlayStation platform and evidences industry recognition of the quality of our programmes.
Additionally, in 2016, Media Design School became Unity Technology’s first and only Training and Certification Partner in New Zealand, meaning that all future graduates of the Bachelor of the school's Game Development degrees will have the opportunity to graduate as Unity Certified Developers.

The Colmar Brunton 2014 Employer Claims Survey showed that New Zealand employers rate Media Design School as the top tertiary institute for supplying graduates with the technical skills necessary to be a valuable employee; the skill most valued by employers in the creative sector who are considering hiring new graduates.

Media Design School's teaching style has been created to simulate the real world industry as closely as possible. From their very first day at Media Design School, our students will be studying in a studio-like environment using state of the art, industry aligned software and technology. One of Media Design School's most recent films, Accidents, Blunders and Calamities (2015), won Best Animated Film at the San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2016. The short film has also won Best Editor (Show Me Shorts Film Festival 2015), People’s Choice Award (Short Me Shorts 2015); Official Selection at Clermont-Ferrand); Official Selection SXSW Film Festival (2016); Official Selection Annecy Festival (2016); and the Jury’s Choice award at the SIGGRAPH Asia Computer Animation Festival Awards (2016).
