Media Design School is a proud sponsor of the Game Masters exhibition at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa) in Wellington from December 15 to April 28 and will support an educational component that gives students a taste of life as a game developer.

Featuring more than 100 playable games, Game Masters celebrates the world’s most influential videogame designers from the late 1970s right through to today.

Across arcades, consoles, PC and mobile platforms the exhibition showcases the work of over 30 game designers, from Nintendo’s iconic character-led worlds featuring Mario and Link, to the immersive stealth combat of Hideo Kojima’s METAL GEAR SOLID and the atmospheric narratives of Flower and Journey by thatgamecompany.

Game Masters will also involve a digital careers day and an education component sponsored by Media Design School. Groups of students (Years 4 to 13) will be challenged to research, design and pitch a game as they would in the industry. The winning concept will be decided by peer votes.

“We are glad to support an exhibition that brings the global history of games to life and makes it accessible to all New Zealanders,” says Media Design School CEO Frances Valintine.

“Our local game industry is booming and there are more opportunities for education, employment and economic growth in the sector than ever before. I hope this exhibition will inspire the next generation of game developers.”

Media Design School launched the Bachelor of Creative Technologies (Game Art) and Bachelor of Software Engineering (Game Programming) in August of this year offering a career pathway for anyone who wants to turn their passion for games into a living.
