Hot on the heels of their 15th anniversary celebrations, Wellington-based game studio Sidhe and mobile publisher PikPok has granted two Media Design School students a generous scholarship toward their first year of study.

Harrison Thrupp and Christopher Howlett, both currently enrolled in Diploma of Interactive Gaming, were granted $2300 each and an internship at the studio. Students were selected based on their commitment, potential and enthusiasm for the industry.

“As the NZ games industry continues to go from strength to strength, we are proud to support emerging local talent in partnership with Media Design School,” said Mario Wynands, Managing Director of Sidhe and mobile publisher PikPok. “With the strong programme Media Design School offers, we have no doubt that these students will achieve great things in the future.”

Media Design School has offered game development qualifications since 2004 and will transition into degree qualifications from August 2012 after receiving approval for Bachelor of Software Engineering (Game Programming) and Bachelor of Creative Technologies (Game Art) – New Zealand’s only game development degrees.

Christopher was “thrilled” to hear he had been chosen for the scholarship and plans to continue his study at the School next year.

“I've learned so much already and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the course, especially the group game assignments toward the end of the year. Videos games have always been my passion and I would love to have a career developing computer games,” he said.

For Harrison, the scholarship will only make him work harder toward his aim of being part of a game design that everyone wants to play.

“I have always wanted to be behind the scenes of one of these big games that everyone is waiting to come out such as Call Of Duty, Gears Of War or Halo,” said Harrison.
