Auckland Student Health
Health and Well Being
New Zealand has an excellent student health system, particularly Auckland, although as is the case with most countries it is one of the political bones of contention discussed by most armchair critics.
Finding a doctor (or GP – for general practitioner, as they are known in New Zealand) is easy enough – they are listed in their entirety at the front of the phone book and will generally be no more than a five-minute walk away from any part of Auckland city. A consultation with a GP will set you back between $30 and $60.
For emergencies, visit an A&E clinic (accident and emergency), also listed at the beginning of the phone book. An ambulance can be summoned by calling the emergency number 111 and requesting the ambulance service.
The main A&E clinic in the city, and consequently the busiest, is Auckland City Hospital, located on Park Road in Grafton. Pharmacies and blood testing labs – under the company name ‘Diagnostic Medlab’ are scattered throughout the city. More information about student health services in New Zealand.
