The New Zealand Government has certain requirements that all educational institutes must observe when considering student fee payments.

The Student Fee Protection arrangement process at Media Design School is through the Media Design School Student Fee Protection Trust. This is administered by MDS Trustee Company Ltd, a trustee company owned and controlled by chartered accountant company Hall and Parsons CA Ltd.

Media Design School students’ qualification deposits and payments made prior to the commencement of any course are held in an independent trust account until the eighth day after any course commencement as required under s236A of the Education Act. This Trust Account is administered by the school’s accountants, Hall and Parsons.

In the unlikely event of the school being unable to continue offering a course, or ceasing business through insolvency, de-registration or withdrawal of accreditation, Media Design School has systems in place which meet the requirements of the Education Act.

Student Fee Insurance
In compliance with the New Zealand Education Act 1989 (section 236A & amendments) and the NZQA Student Fee Protection Policy 2004 Media Design School provides Student Fee Insurance coverage for all student fees through StudentCare. The school holds an individual insurance policy for each students while studying at Media Design School that covers the portion of the unconsumed fees. Students may request a copy of their individual policy from the Registrar.

StudentCare
StudentCare is an approved supplier of student insurance by NZQA for the purposes of the protection of student fees paid in advance after the first 8 days of their qualification intake commences.

Claims
Should the school no longer be able to offer the tuition that the student is enrolled on and has fully paid for, the student would apply to make a claim or the unconsumed fees to the insurance company – StudentCare.

Academic Records

The school has offsite technical systems and internal databases to manage and protect all student electronic academic and achievement records. Hard copy records are stored onsite for one year and then generally removed to offsite storage. Any student effected by a closure of the school would recieve a written transcript of their academic progress to date and details of the components of their qualification studied and successfully completed at the time.
