Course Overview
Investigate advanced animation techniques while pursuing an individual investigatory project through a combination of practical workshops, theory classes and individual research. Applicants for this qualification should already hold a tertiary degree or should be able to demonstrate relevant industry experience.
Course Breakdown
Introduction and Organic/Inorganic Modelling
Begin the programme by getting used to the tools of the trade, including both practical and theory components for Maya, Photoshop, After Effects and practical photography. Then move on to organic and inorganic modelling, a core skill for 3D animation.
Rigging and Animation
Move through the principles and practical techniques of both rigging and animation. This component covers rigging techniques (including goals and ideas), principles of animation, blocking and smoothing, timing and facial animation.
Texturing, Lighting and Rendering
Learn the skills behind texturing, lighting and rendering – including: storyboarding, lighting techniques and practices, shading models and materials, UV layout, texture painting, rendering techniques and troubleshooting.
Creative Technologies Theory
Investigatory techniques and modern practices for the creative using technology to complete studies across disciplines. Topics include: creative industries and creative technologies, theories and practices, project management, creative and critical thinking, critique and justification, transdisciplinary studies, communication studies, investigatory techniques and approaches, academic and commercial standards, transdisciplinary creative project and investigation, and project post-mortems.
Individual Investigation and Project
In the first 16 weeks of the graduate diploma, investigate an area of interest that will enable you to complete an individual project in the second 16 weeks of qualification.

Entry Requirements
All applicants must provide evidence to support the level of expertise required for a specific project brief. This could be in the form of a portfolio/show-reel of creative/technical work, evidence, qualification transcripts, and employer statements.
Open to applicants with a specialist degree qualification in the creative of digital content fields, or those able to demonstrate equivalency in relevant industry experience.
