Lab Animal to MIAF
The Laboratory Animal, a short made by Mark Smith (currently working for Weta Productions) during his time studying 3D Computer Animation at MDS in 2006, has been selected for competition in the Student Competition category for the 2009 Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF).

Nick Cave?s Soundsuits
Nick Cave's soundsuits have been described in the Boston Phoenix as ?lavish, strange, beautifully-crafted outfits resembling mash-ups of African tribal ceremonial dress, Ku Klux Klan robes, Roman Catholic clergy vestments, yetis, Star Wars aliens, plumed and sequined carnival costumes, and fabulous drag queen gowns.?

Metonymy - forging new creative connections
Metonymy was started in 2008 by three Auckland poets and visual artists. It's back for 2009 and aims to encourage collaberation between writers/poets and visual artists. You get to create a piece of art using inspiration from one another that could be exhibited as part of Auckland's Writers and Readers festival. Get your registrations in quickly though, as they close April 4th.
Women make their place in the “games sun”!
Once a very male dominated industry, women are now slowly making their mark in the 3D and Games Industries. From an education viewpoint, the amount of applications and graduates coming out of schools with 3D or games focus degrees is growing

Name that movie!
Our newbie Graphic Design students were challenged to create a postcard promoting a movie. Doesn't sound too hard? Think again - they weren't allowed to use photographs from the movie, text or a computer. Take a look and see if you can guess which movie each postcard is promoting!
