AdSchool graduates conduct unofficial Beer Census and do weird things with Yams

analiese.jackson 25 Sep 2014 Comments

When AdSchool Graduate Beth O'Brien was at the school she ended up doing one of our enduringly favourite student campaigns for Frenz free range eggs; called Chicken Pedometers. It put a quirky spin on a normally sober supermarket product. Now, three years later and at Colenso, Beth and her creative partner Oriel Davis-Lyons have put that quirky spin on the whole supermarket itself with two TV spots for New World supermarket.  http://www.campaignbrief.co.nz/2014/09/new-world-introduces-quirky-ne.html

They're not only pretty revolutionary for a supermarket brand, they also got an awesome response from the head of foodstuffs: “Most of the time we make ads. Then once or twice in a career we make something that is properly enjoyable and that crosses over into culture. Thirteen years ago I made an ad like that. Now, I've got another one.”

Meanwhile, over at Barnes Catmur, graduate Rob Cook has won August Newspaper ad of the month with NZ's first Beer Census:  http://www.campaignbrief.co.nz/2014/08/boundary-road-brewery-commissi.html

AdSchool students make shortlist for International Crowbar, Newspaper of the Year and Student Axis

analiese.jackson 25 Sep 2014 Comments

Seven AdSchool students have been shortlisted for the International Crowbar awards - putting us in their top ten schools worldwide for 2014. Congrats to Tania Menzies, Sian Henderson, Shakthi Ramachandran, Julie Koch, Gair Harrison-McCulloch, Harry Wilde and Kristi Tansilia (who has been nominated twice for two different pieces of work!). Winners will be announced in Singapore on 26th September.

A week after that, the Student Newspaper of the Year awards will be announced, and once again AdSchool students are heavily shortlisted with 3 out of 4 finalist places: Tania Menzies & Julie Koch are shortlisted twice for two different campaigns, and Sian Henderson and Kristi Tansilia (yes, her again!) are also shortlisted.

Continuing the double shortlisting theme are Kent Briggs and Nick Houghton who have two topical ads shortlisted for the topical ad of the year. If you think that's an anxious wait for shortlisted students, then spare a thought for our TVNZ Student Axis finalists who, in a hotly contested competition between students at Media Design School, Otago and AUT, gaining three out of the four finalist places. Which means, the creative teams of Julie Koch & Tania Menzies, Harry Wilde & Elizabeth Henwood, together with Savannah Hurley & Monique Bedford now have an anxious wait until the Axis Awards in March next year to see who wins the coveted Student Axis of the year award.
