3D Animation Lecturer 

Media Design School emphasises the world of creativity, preparing top-talent graduates for the entertainment, media and design sectors both in NZ and internationally. The 3D Department is the premier training for 3D Animation and Visual Effects artists in NZ.

We have around 500 students each year studying to graduate with specialist high-level qualifications for careers in the digital creativity sector including game development, 3D animation, web development and graphic design. Led by award-winning filmmaker James Cunningham, the 3D team teaches both 3D and advanced 3D courses in a hands-on, small group environment.

Due to recent expansion and the development of our Bachelor of Art & Design degree, we are currently seeking a Lecturer for the 3D Department.

Help grow the ever-expanding New Zealand Visual Effects industry and maintain your close ties with local industry. In this role, you will share responsibility for development, preparation and teaching of lesson plans and course material within your department. Apart from excellent communications skills and a well-respected industry career, we are ideally seeking someone with experience in an academic environment. In order to deliver the best to our students, the school will support and encourage you to maintain and develop your own 3D skills and training.

We need a professional with proven skills at the cutting edge of industry to engage, teach and inspire students at New Zealand’s most awarded design school.

Along with your relevant qualification (degree level preferred), you will have:
• Considerable (3+ years) industry experience in 3D. 
• A proven high level of knowledge and experience as a texturing and lighting artist.
• Confident presentation and communication skills.
• In depth knowledge of industry standard tools and techniques, particularly Maya.
• Excellent knowledge of industry practices, standards and processes. 
• Previous teaching/tutoring and research experience is desirable but not essential.  The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their research and teaching skills.
